With the inclusion of dual front airbags, the Bolero will now cost extra than the outgoing model.

Since the mandatory ruling of dual front airbags to be included in all new vehicles sold in India came out, automakers have become quite serious about the issue. The norm came properly into effect from last month, and until before, several budget vehicles in different segments came only with the driver-side airbag. Vehicles such as Maruti Alto, Renault Kwid, Maruti S-Presso and Mahindra Bolero were offered, with passenger-side airbag as an option or only with the top-end models. Now, Mahindra complying with the latest safety norms has updated its most popular model Bolero by adding dual-front airbags to its safety list.

Interior changes

With the addition of dual-front airbags as standard, the homegrown automaker has also seen this as an opportunity to tweak the interiors of the Bolero. The solidly built grab handle on the dashboard at the passenger’s side has now been replaced by a regular dashboard panel, along with, refreshed faux wood garnish identical to the wood finish on the central console around the aircons, and audio system.

These changes have been made to accommodate the additional airbag. Rest, the interiors of this 7-seater remain the same with features like manual AC, power steering, power windows, rear wash and wiper, Bluetooth-enabled audio system with USB and AUX support, 12V charging point, keyless entry and semi-digital instrument cluster.

Other standard safety features remain intact, including an Anti-lock Braking system, reverse parking sensors, high-speed warning alert and seat-belt reminder. There are no changes to the exteriors either, with the same bold grille and clear lens headlamps at the front and clear lens tail lights at the rear.

The Bolero also comes with mild-hybrid engine start/stop technology that adds to the fuel efficiency. The claimed fuel economy of Mahindra Bolero stands at 16kmpl.
