Out of Maruti’s 14 models in the Indian market, 5 are offered with CNG kits.

With the petrol prices soaring continuously and the demand for green vehicles rising, several automakers have been shifting their policies towards bringing new alternatives to their existing models. Maruti has been at the forefront of offering its cars with CNG kits.

Recently, the carmaker has confirmed that it is planning to double its CNG model range, with the exact models and launch timelines yet to be confirmed. With Celerio CNG confirmed for launch soon, the below models can come with factory fitted CNG kit in coming years:

Maruti Swift

Customer sentiments have revealed that the demand for the Swift CNG model is rising as it is one of the best-sellers in the lineup. Another reason that could be playing a key role behind is that rival Hyundai Grand i10 Nios is currently being offered with the CNG, and Maruti could be working on Swift CNG to counter the competition, and increase sales.

The CNG model can be offered with the same 1.2L 90PS petrol engine but with tone down power.

Maruti Dzire

The most desirable compact sedan in the country, Maruti Dzire can also get the CNG treatment in future. Even here also, the Korean automaker Hyundai has an upper edge, as it is offering its sub-4-meter sedan Aura with the CNG version.

And with Tata and Honda also mulling to bring CNG models of their Tigor and Amaze, there are high chances that Maruti could be working on the same strategy for the Dzire. The engine will be the same as in Swift.

Maruti Baleno

Here things could be different as Baleno CNG if launched, could be the first such car in its segment. A premium hatchback with CNG can be a good idea from Maruti. And as it shares the engine with Swift and Dzire, it won’t be a problem for the company to apply the CNG tech in Baleno.

Maruti Vitara Brezza

According to Maruti officials, customers are also showing interest in the CNG model of Vitara Brezza. Though CNG technology in compact SUVs hasn’t been explored yet, Maruti can be a frontrunner. Moreover, as Ertiga MPV is also available in CNG with the same 1.5L 104PS petrol engine working in Brezza, the latter is also expected to get the same.

And what more could a customer ask if he gets anything close to 26km/kg mileage as in Ertiga?

Maruti Ciaz

It could be another decent addition to the premium Nexa vehicles lineup. Since Ciaz also employs the same engine as doing its duty Ertiga and Brezza, there shouldn’t be any difficulty to integrate CNG technology in Ciaz too. And as there isn’t any CNG option in the c-segment yet, Maruti could start the ball rolling.

CNG option is generally offered in base or mid-spec variants. And as per pricing, factory-fitted CNG kits comes at a premium of Rs. 70,000-90,000 over their counterpart petrol variants.
